Swim Party

I knew if I didn't get this post up right away, it wouldn't happen. You can expect a good three months of blogging from me here pretty soon though because school will be out. :)

Yesterday, we had the first pool party of the year. It was way fun. We got to hang out with some old friends, new friends, and family. Here are a few pictures.

I won!!

There's been some question as to whether or not I could beat my grandpa in a race due to my disease. Well, he came to visit me last night and we raced. He won in the trash talking, but I won the race. Apparently, I'm well on my way to recovery. :)

Today March 27th 2009 Katie had surgery. She had her large intestine removed. The operation went great and there was no real complications. The doctor was unable to do the surgery as planned because of inflamtion. After this surgery she will have to go back in for two more surgeries later in the summer. She is recovering very well. Thanks for all of the prayers and the help everyone has given to us.

Two Weeks To Go!!!

I know it's a miracle, I'm finally posting. But, I finally took a day to myself and went to my sister's salon to get my hair cut. While I was here I decided I could write a quick post. I've been debating about whether I really wanted to make this post, but what the heck. The only deal is, I'm not writing this for the sympathy, just to let people know what's up with us.
So, Robert's just been working and going to school, and I've been working my two jobs. I really like Mt. Ogden Junior High...so much that it feels like I spend every waking moment there!
Anyway, for those of you who don't know, I have a disease called Ulcerative Colitis. Basically, my colon doesn't work right, and over the last couple of months, it has pretty much decided to stop working. After many different medicines, we have opted for surgery. I'm going to have my colon removed in 2 weeks! You would think I should be nervous about this, and I am a little. But, more than anything I'm excited. If I knew how and/or wanted to take the time to figure it out, I'd put a countdown on my blog. I'm just so excited to feel better. It's a two-part surgery that will take at least 6-8 weeks of recovery with a 5 day hospital stay, but at this point Robert and I don't even care. We are just ready for me to be able to do the things I used to without having to worry about the bathroom.
Now, I always swore that I wouldn't be one to write sappy posts about my husband, so I won't. I'll just put in some things other people have said.
"You're husband is so cute. He just takes such good care of you." -Tammy Burton (the head secretary at my school)
"Robert deserves some sort of award for taking care of you." -Emily Thomas (my sister)
"Poor Robert, tell him I'll make him dinner." -My mom.
And just one from me:
"Mark, please take Robert snowboarding so he can have a break."
But, I do have to say, the funniest comment that has come out of this is when Robert told me he might be able to find some time to visit me while I'm in the hospital. You've gotta love it when husbands are trying to be sweet.
I also just want to give a shout out to everyone who has helped us already by making us food or picking me up or sending me home from work or however else they can. We appreciate all your help.
In May, I'm thinking we'll have the traditional swim party to celebrate our birthdays, and the death of my colon. :) The doctor says when all is said and done I'll still be able to 4-wheel and kayak.

Family Stuff

So, we've just been doing a lot of family stuff because it was the end of the summer. Derek moved to Seattle to go to school, so before he left we had a swimming party at my mom's house. This is the deal, we used to be way crazy in the pool when we were little. But, we've kinda chilled out over the years. Then, we all started getting married. The brother-in-laws and the boy cousins have brought back the craziness. This particular time, they were trying to walk on water. Enjoy.

Then, one night we all decided to go bowling. It was a spur of the moment thing. It was a lot of fun, and the little girls were so funny watching their bowling ball go down the lane.

And, here's some funny pictures of our nephews. Jack eating his heart out, like always. Chanler sporting a sweet hat. And, Chanler, Porter, and Deakin on their 4-wheelers they each got for their first birthdays. Check back next week, we went camping over Labor Day, and I hope to have those pictures posted by then!

EFY

Who knew that you could be EFY counselors when you were married? We sure didn't. But, then the Bishop called and asked us to. We decided to give it a shot. Right before we went, we were pretty hesitant, but after we went, we loved it!!

If any of you know Robert and I, you know that we are not really the EFY type. I was kinda nervous that we'd end up being bad influences, but we managed to avoid that somehow. I was also a little nervous that we'd be way to blunt with our kids (remember that I work in inner-city Ogden), but we managed to avoid that too.

Both Robert and I got a great group of kids. They were really fun. The program we did was a stay-at-home program, so we just met up at Weber State every day. A lot of our kids were from South Davis County, and ever since we've been done, Robert keeps thinking he sees them everywhere. It's kinda funny.

Flaming Gorge

Okay, if you haven't seen our pictures from Mexico yet, keep scrolling down. It's time to add a new post before I get way, way behind. My only hope is to get caught up in time for me to start school again. Then, I'll never post since I'll be working 1 1/2 jobs!

So, over the 4th of July my mom's side of the family always goes camping at Flaming Gorge. We camp close to the dam so we can raft the river whenever we want. This year we went down twice because Brooke brought the triplets and someone had to stay behind with them each time.

My dad, Sheree, Robert, and John were in heaven because they got to kayak for 2 days! They convinced Brian to try it out too. These are some videos of them rolling. Also, since we pretty much just went down the river, those are the only pictures I have. Enjoy!

Oh, I almost forgot. Once we got to Flaming Gorge, Robert notice that his truck was leaking. Well, come to find out that his water pump had gone out! We had to take a trip to Vernal to get a new one, and the tools needed to change it because they are special ones. Luckily, Robert knows how to do those things, plus Aaron is also a mechanic, so he helped out two. Thanks Aaron! We keep joking that we are not going to go on anymore vacations because they end up costing us too much!
